Dying to Know Day 2023

Dying to Know Day is an annual campaign that brings to life conversations and community action around death, dying and bereavement. The campaign aims to support Australians to improve their death literacy and progress end-of-life planning through local and community events. All activities are free and open to anyone who would like to attend.

Friday, August 4

4-5pm Launch of the Compassionate BUNBURY Charter, City of Bunbury Function Room

Hosted by the City of Bunbury.

1-2pm Tour of crematorium and memorial gardens

This is a walking tour and involves walking on uneven surfaces. Enclosed shoes are recommended and an umbrella may be needed if it is raining.

Meet at the Bunbury Cemetery Board Administration Office, located behind the Crematorium, Hales St, Carey Park

2.30-4pm Every story matters – beyond the grave 

Brendan Kelly tells stories of everyday people interred in the Bunbury Cemetery. They each have a life story – a tale to tell. Hear about them and the way our death rites differ from other cultures.

5pm-5.30pm Remembering our Dead ceremony with floating lanterns

Meet in the Indoor Lounge.

In honour of those who have gone before us, you are invited to add the name of someone who has died to a lantern and join us in a short ceremony of remembrance before floating the lanterns on the lake.

Please note that the lake area has uneven surfaces and is not wheelchair accessible.

10.30am-12noon Death Cafe – Dying for a Cuppa

Hosted by the Bunbury Death Cafe & the Bunbury Cemetery Board. Indoor Lounge, enter through Hales Street entrance.
